What is a furnished holiday home?
Furnished tourist accommodation is a furnished villa, flat or studio, for the exclusive use of the tenant, offered for rent to a visiting clientele who stay there by the day, week or month and who do not take up residence there (Article D 324-1 of the Tourism Code).
They are distinguished from other types of accommodation, in particular hotels and tourist residences, in that they are reserved for the exclusive use of the tenant, and do not include a reception area or lobby, or shared services and facilities.
They are distinguished from bed and breakfast accommodation where the inhabitant is present during the rental period.
Seasonal or tourist rentals differ from residential leases in two respects:
- The tenant does not take up residence in the property, but stays there mainly for the holidays.
- The seasonal rental must be concluded for a maximum of 90 days with the same person.

The Law for a Digital Republic of 7 October 2016 introduces two major changes concerning tourist rentals:
- From now on, all tourist rentals, whether primary or secondary residence, will have to have a registration number to be published in the advertisement through the platforms*
*(Airbnb, Abritel HomeAway, Gîtes de France, Clévacances, Booking, Windu, central reservations and any operator allowing the reservation and online payment of tourist accommodation on behalf of non-professional renters... non-exhaustive list).

How to obtain your registration number?
Very simply by logging on to the Déclaloc teleservice at the following address: https://www.declaloc.fr, and by filling in the necessary fields.
By registering, the hirer will automatically be issued with a 13-character registration number, which he/she must publish in his/her online advertisement, but also on all commercial communication media.
