The Florans Castle Park tells the story of four centuries of history. It is a unique place, conceived and landscaped in the 17th century under the guidance of the De Forbin lords. In the 19th century, it became a playground for the children of the Marquise and Marquis de Florans during their stays at Florans Castle.
Today, it continues to write and tell its story by hosting the International Piano Festival every summer since 1981.
A true oasis of coolness during the summer months, the park is home to a unique and fragile ecosystem where distinctive and native plant species coexist. Japanese laurels and aralias, yews, holly, linden trees, hazelnut trees, broad-leaved spindle trees, and many other species have thrived here thanks to the constant irrigation provided by the Moulin Canal, which winds its way through the park. This botanical diversity helps make this place a unique green oasis in the heart of the Mediterranean landscape.
Two iconic tree species reign supreme in the heart of the Château de Florans Park: the 320 plane trees lining its two avenues and the sequoias, some of which are likely over 150 years old.
In the heart of this lush green setting, the park’s meadow welcomes sheep every spring as part of an eco-grazing program. It then becomes a true gathering place for pollinators.
Birdlife is also abundant in the Château de Florans Park. In the spring, the two rows of plane trees become veritable nurseries for rooks. In the wooded areas of the park, visitors can spot blue tits and great tits, redstarts, chaffinches, magpies, and jays, as well as woodpeckers and orioles. As night falls, tawny owls, little owls, barn owls, and sometimes even eagle owls join this array of wildlife.
