Church of Notre Dame de l'Annonciation

The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Annonciation was created by combining two former chapels, which are now connected by a central nave. These two buildings, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, bear witness to the history and origins of La Roque d’Anthéron.

In La Roque d’Anthéron, the town’s patron saint is King Saint Louis, while the church is named Notre-Dame de l’Annonciation.

The building originated from the merger of two chapels: the first, built for the settlers who arrived in the 16th century, and the second, dedicated to the Holy Spirit, which once housed the tomb of Annibal de Forbin, who was killed in battle on the ramparts of Aix-en-Provence. In 1742, Melchior de Forbin united them by adding a central nave, giving the complex its current appearance.

Unveiled in Les Rocassiers in July 1897, the church is the work of Father Cazin. Built in the Baroque style, it captivates visitors with its elegance and unique atmosphere. It is also renowned for its exceptional acoustics, which make it a particularly popular venue for musical events.
