Place de la République La Grande Lessive® is a participatory, ephemeral work of art created in 2006 by Joëlle Gonthier. It draws on the tradition of old-fashioned communal laundry days: A4-sized artistic creations (drawings, paintings, photographs, collages, visual poetry, etc.) are hung on clotheslines in public or private spaces.
Held twice a year, in March and October, around a shared artistic theme that changes with each edition, it brings together participants of all ages and from all walks of life.
Held in 134 countries across 5 continents, La Grande Lessive® has already attracted more than 15 million participants. It aims to promote artistic expression, celebrate creativity, and strengthen social bonds.
